Central Plaza is a high rise senior housing development in Mobile, Alabama. This development is not seen as a desirable place to live by prospective tenants and community leaders. However, the proposed capital needs do not exceed the strict thresholds for obsolescence, so HUD will not allow the development to be demolished or disposed. This provideed a unique opportunity for the Mobile Housing Board (MHB) to redesign and reinvent this development.
A full interior atrium redesign strategy was developed and integrated into the needs assessment. CHS provided drawings and renderings to assist the MHB staff in communicating their goals to residents and stakeholders.
